On this week’s Firewall, we’re talking to Will Ford, the director of marketplace leadership at Christ for the Nations International in Dallas, Texas. He’s also the co-founder of a company called Dream Steam, which is part of a vision for reconciliation. Will is going to be sharing from his book, The Dream King.
Around 2003-2004, Will was due at a service at Dr. Martin Luther King’s old church, the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. The night before he went to the church, he had a powerful dream that changed everything, a dream that helped him get rid of a lot of bitterness and baggage, so we could all get a new vehicle that can bring revival and justice for everyone.
We talk about stories, and how powerful they are, how they start to shape the narrative and how narratives are used politically. Will has a fantastic story about a kettle pot passed down in his family because of how the slaves used it. He’ll also share how he and a friend, Matt Lockett, one a descendant of slaves and the other descended from slave owners, found a stunning connection.
Dreams led both men to the place where Dr. King said:
“I have a dream that one day the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood.”
